Toni Bruce is a Professor of sport sociology and sports media at the University of Auckland and a regular sports columnist for New Zealand media. She researches sports media discourses, with particular emphasis on how gender ‘difference’ is produced. Her recent work explores media coverage of the Paralympic Games, the rise of the pretty and powerful female athlete, and new ways of theorising changes in sports media narratives. Toni has served on the boards of Women in Sport Aotearoa and WomenSport International. In 2016, based on 25 years of research, she published Terra Ludus: A Novel about Media, Gender and Sport.
