Phil leads the communications team at Sport New Zealand and is the organisation's former media manager. He is responsible for the Sport New Zealand - Isentia study of gender balance in sports news coverage, and to support this undertakes extensive stakeholder engagement with media, sports and others to help drive positive change. Phil has worked in sport for 10 years and was previously PR & Media Manager NZ for ICC Cricket World Cup 2015.
The study involved analysis of 40,000 media stories a year (broadcast, print and online), which is around a third of New Zealand’s sports media coverage. This talk will include a case study of media coverage of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2022.
