Moana Tamaariki-Pohe

Of Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei/ Cook Island heritage; a champion of te Waitematā, Moana, together with her twin Donna, and father, Tamaiti helped spearhead the restoration of mauri to Ōkahu Bay and was instrumental in getting the mooring buoys removed. She co-founded the Ōrākei Water Sports Club with a five year goal to be the first self sustainable, self sufficient waka ama organisation in Aotearoa; the goal was achieved in four years. Her 10 years at the Hauraki Gulf Forum led to the transformation to a co-chair model. Moana holds a number of board and consultancy positions and actively supports marine restoration. In 2021 she received the Member of NZ Order of Merit for Conservation and Maori.
