Dr Lana McCarthy has a background as a physical education teacher and a netball development officer. She is currently a Lecturer in personal development, health and physical education (PDHPE) at Charles Sturt University in Bathurst, NSW, Australia. She has been involved in the coaching of many various netball teams at school, club, regional, and national level in both New Zealand and Australia. She is currently the head coach of the following teams: Orange Regional Netball League, Hawks Division One Club, Orange U12 Representative, Orange Open State Titles, and the assistant coach for the Regional State Cup team. She completed her PhD in 2019 investigating the team culture and leadership within the Silver Ferns, and her findings were published in a book called Will to Win, co-authored with Andy Martin and Geoff Watson.
