Kereyn Smith

Kereyn Smith MNZM, is a Director and Consultant, with significant experience and a proven track record in governance and leadership roles within New Zealand and international sporting organisations.

Kereyn recently completed a successful 11 year tenure as CEO of the New Zealand Olympic Committee (NZOC). Bringing a strong focus on integrity, athlete wellbeing and governance Kereyn provided strong and stable leadership and oversight for NZ Team campaigns spanning three Olympiads. This included Summer Games (London 2012, Rio 2016, Tokyo 2020), Winter Games (Sochi 2014, PyeongChang 2018, Beijing 2022) and two Commonwealth Games (Glasgow 2014, Gold Coast 2018). Most recent campaigns achieved unprecedented success in a complex, covid world.


Under Kereyn’s stewardship the NZOC was consistently rated by both New Zealand and wider international stakeholders, as a credible and capable leader in sport and the Olympic and Commonwealth Movements.

Prior to this she was CEO of the NZ Academy of Sport (South Island), having earlier served as General Manager of the Hillary Commission (now Sport NZ).

In a governance capacity, Kereyn is a Vice President of the Commonwealth Games Federation where she plays a significant role in shaping and planning the direction and operation of the Commonwealth Games. She served on the IOC Sport and Active Society Commission and was member of the IOC Evaluation Commission for the 2024 and 2028 Olympic Host City.

Kereyn completed a six-year stint as Vice President of International Netball following her work as Chair of Netball New Zealand.

She has also served as a Trustee of the Forsyth Barr Stadium, Council Member of the University of Otago, Director of the Highlanders Rugby Franchise amongst other roles.

Kereyn was awarded the 2022 ISPS Handa Sport NZ Leadership Award, and in 2015, was named a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to sports governance.

She has also received international acclaim for advocacy work to increase the participation of women in sport across all roles and functions and was an inaugural IWG Executive member. She is a global champion for inclusion, diversity and equality in sport leadership and governance.
