Katongo Bwayla

NOWSPAR (National Organization for Women in Sport Physical Activity and Recreation) (ZAM)

Katongo is the chairperson of the National Organisation for Women in Sport, Physical Activity and Recreation (NOWSPAR) in Zambia and a lecturer of Physical Education and Sport at The University of Zambia. 

In both her NGO work and academic experiences, Katongo’s focus is on physical education and sport development, especially for girls and the marginalised in Southern Africa. Within the region, she has been actively involved in the delivery of various sports leadership programmes through her engagement with the African Union Sports Council Region 5(AUSC5).

Katongo has previously worked for the Ministry of Sport Youth and Child Development and the Olympic Youth Development Centre in Zambia. Katongo is a 2018 Mandela Washington Fellow who is passionate about the promotion of equitable engagement of girls and women and youth in sport, physical activity and recreation. She advocates for community development through inclusion and empowerment.
