Education

Damaris is a graduate in Law and Political Science from Universidad Santa María La Antigua (PAN) and in Criminal Justice with a specialization in psychology from Lincoln Memorial University (USA), both with a Magna Cum Laude degree.

In 2012 she finished the Official Master's Degree in Sports Law from the University of Lleida and the National Institute of Physical Education of Catalonia (SPA) and in 2014 the IOC Master in Management for Olympic Sports Organizations (SWI). In 2020, she completed with honors the Master in Olympic Studies at the German University of Sport (GER).

Career

From 2013, she was the Legal and Management Advisor of the National Olympic Committee of Panama. Since 2015 is a member of the Athlete Entourage Commission of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), from 2016 the President of the Appeals Panel of the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) and since 2020 Legal Advisor of the South American Sports Organization (ODESUR) and Coordinator of the Legal Commission of the Central American Sports Organization (ORDECA), in 2020 was appointed as a member of the Reforms and Governance Commission of the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF).

From July 2019 to August 2020, she was the Advisor on Sports Management to His Excellency Laurentino Cortizo Cohen, President of the Republic of Panama.

She is currently the elected President of the National Panama Olympic Committee for the 2021 - 2024 term and was appointed as its Chief Executive Officer.


Research

In the field of research she has published several articles among which stand out among others: "La organización administrativa del deporte en Panamá" published in the Revista Aranzandi de Derecho Deportivo (SPA), "The participation of Women in the Olympic Movement of Panama: An analysis from a sport and management perspective published by the IOC Olympic Studies Centre in 2020.

She is a guest lecturer in various sports law subjects at the University of Lleida, the National Institute of Physical Education of Catalonia, the Olympic Academy of Qatar, and the University of Panama.
