Baklai J. Temengil

Secretary General of Palau National Olympic Committee

Baklai J. Temengil is a former Palauan Cabinet Minister of Community and Cultural Affairs. She was nominated by President Tommy E. Remengesau, Jr. in 2013 and was confirmed by the Senate. Her term as a Minister was from 2013-2020. In April 2017, Temengil became the first woman to become vice president of the Oceania National Olympic Committees. The same year November 2017, she was elected to the International Olympic Committee. During her tenure as a Minister, she actively led her Ministry of Community & Cultural Affairs in various areas, from women’s affairs, disability and aging, youth and community programs, archive, and research, with extensive public administration and management through the President’s Office in the areas of housing, land tenures issues, and including her leadership and role in sports development and sustainability programs in Palau.

To date, Temengil is the Vice President of Oceania National Olympic Committee (ONOC), Chair of the ONOC International Relations. Temengil is an IOC and Member of the following Commissions: Women in Sport (2017-), Sport and Active Society (2018-), Coordination of the Games of the XXXIV Olympiad Los Angeles 2028 (2019-), Sustainability and Legacy (2020-); Coordination of the Games of the XXXV Olympiad Brisbane 2032 (2021-).
